CATHARSIS: A Kunzelman Trip

I was very excited to hear about the impending Halloween release of “CATHARSIS,”  the latest “trip” from hard rock game designer Cameron Kunzelman.

So basically in ages past, a corrupt mage named Garm used a set of Runestones to summon a demon named Skorne. However, Skorne crushed Garm and imprisoned his soul in the Underworld. Skorne, fearing the power of the Runestones, scattered them throughout the four realms, so that they could never be used against him. So in comes Jeff, the cleanup guy. His job is simple: kill Skorne. The Runestones don’t matter.

Oh, and did I mention? Skorne comes with a roiling horde of demons.

werewolf blast

Jeff’s introduction is simple enough.

fence battle

The story “heats up” pretty quick from the start.

online story mode

Play online; it’s similar to Dark Souls, where wandering badasses will help you out.

lab monstrosity

Though co-op maybe makes it a little too easy… (We died five times here. The game moves fast so watch out!)

rope jaw

Jeff is the quintessential cleaner upper.

Wind God's Reign

Some really cool special moves in this game!

Just a taste of Skorne here; the yellow in the health bar is all the damage I did over 20 minutes of play.

Review: SO, what do I think of this game? Forget trick-or-treating. I’m spending Halloween in HELL! 10/10. Kunzelman rules.

Play it for yourself, if you think you can handle it.
